Former Overwatch League Nate Nanzer will reportedly be joining Epic Games in the near future, according to ESPN Esports.

On Friday evening, Overwatch League Commissioner announced on Twitter that he was leaving Activision Blizzard to take on a new opportunity.

Nanzer has been part of the Overwatch League since day 1, serving as the head of the League since its inception in 2016.

On Twitter, Nanzer said, “Hey Overwatch League family. I wanted to share that soon I will be leaving Blizzard for a new opportunity. This has been the toughest decision of my life, because it means I won’t get to work with the best staff, players, teams, owners, partners, and fans in esports anymore.”

Following the tweets, ESPN Esports has released an article stating that sources have been told them that Nanzer will be joining Epic Games in the near future to lead esports strategy for Epic Games on Fortnite. Epic Games also recently acquired Psyonix, developers of Rocket League, which also has an extensive esports program.

Epic Games has confirmed to ESPN that Nate Nanzer will be joining Epic Games to work on Fortnite esports. “We’re excited to welcome Nate to the Epic Games team, where he’ll be working with us on competitive Fortnite.”

The Overwatch League has been a successful esports initiative for Activision Blizzard since its 2018 start.

Epic Games has been expanding their esports program with Fortnite with over $100 million in esports prize pools in the first year’s World Cup. The Fortnite World Cup is still on-going with the season set to end in New York in July with a $30 million event.
