Representatives from Ukraine have traveled to Estonia to examine their digital government policies according to a statement from the Administration of the President of Ukraine.
The approval of new ideas
The President, Mikhail Fedorov, spoke on his findings, which we’ve translated here:
“‘Estonia was the first in the world to introduce electronic interaction between registers and ID-cards, held electronic elections and reached the level of online services in 99% , provided an opportunity for ‘electronic citizenship’ – the experience of this country is really impressive. Our goal is to apply the most up-to-date and innovative technologies and approaches for implementation of the concept ‘State on the smartphone’ to make a rapid jump, having missed several evolutionary stages where possible.”
While there, the representatives held over 10 meetings, with a notable one being the Chief Information Officer of Estonia. Others included the Secretary of State of the Cabinet of Ministers, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Center of REgisters, and the Academy of e-Estonia.
“The main thing is that we have received very positive feedback about our plans from Estonian experts,” says the advisor to the Head of State. “And also agreed on specific support for the audit of registries,” they continue. “The development of the Trembita system, the modern electronic identification of SmartID, and the introduction of e- Residency At each meeting, we felt absolute openness and a desire to help Ukraine. This is very inspiring.”
According to CoinTelegraph, the Estonian government has been working with blockchain tech for quite some time now. In fact, this country was the first in the world to bring in the decentralized ledger for record-keeping.
This news comes to us after the government announced its intention with blockchain back in 2016. The goal at that time was for healthcare records but has since moved to e-residency and other programs as well. Who knows? Maybe the country will move towards its own local cryptocurrency exchange or crypto wallet sometime soon.
