In business, have you ever intervened to try to prevent a colleague from being fired? What happened? #SmallBiz

I did.

I had a co-founder who fired my other co-founder without telling me.

The early days are always tough. We’d lauched, with only a small fraction of the traction we’d anticipated.

Who’s fault was it?

  • The engineer who built a not-good-enough product?
  • The marketer who didn’t market well enough?
  • The sales guy who didn’t sell well enough?

No one knew. There was a lot of arguing. A lot of drama. And one fired another.

It was tough, I had to walk it back. Both literally (on several long walks), and conceptually. I had to give the “fired” co-founder more stock.

And ultimately, I had to let the other co-founder … the one that did the firing … move on.
