Much like entrepreneurs, travel agents rely on personal branding and marketing to grow their customer base. Branding is a complex process with many moving parts, but with the right strategy, you can achieve your goals.
Follow these five steps for branding success for travel agents.
1. Find Your Niche.
Contrary to popular belief, there is still a great need for travel agents. But it’s up to you to position yourself as an indispensable traveler resource. How can you achieve this? By finding your niche.
Think of your niche as your specialization.
What can you offer that other travel agents can’t provide? Niches can focus on:
- Certain age groups – e.g. boomers, millennials, Gen Z, etc.
- Certain types of travelers – e.g. solo, digital nomads, families, etc.
- Certain types of travel – e.g. gastro-tourism, medical tourism, religious tourism, etc.
Many people don’t realize that travel agents enjoy perks that everyday travelers don’t have access to. Use these perks and connections to find your niche and position yourself as the go-to expert for your specialization.
2. Bring Value.
Speaking of niches, your specialization can serve as your value proposition. In a sea of travel agents, you need a way to stand out in the crowed. Bringing value to the table is the best way to make your services more attractive than others.
Along with your services, there are other ways to offer value, such as:
- An informative blog with travel tips and tricks
- Entertainment in the form of funny stories or video content
- Inspiration in the form of beautiful travel photos on your blog and/or Instagram
Value is what will make you stand out in the crowd. Provide your potential customers with unique content, and they will think of you the next time they want to book a memorable trip.
3. Be Consistent.
Consistency is the cornerstone of branding. From your logo to the colors you choose and your photos, it is crucial to be consistent in your image across all channels and platforms.
The goal is to have customers recognize your brand and name instantly.
If you use different photos, logos and colors on each platform, it can create confusion. Your audience may not know whether all of your accounts are legitimate. Ultimately, inconsistency gives the impression that you’re not a true professional.
4. Don’t Skimp on the Visuals.
Consistency is important, right? Keep this in mind when you’re developing your brand’s visuals. You’re going to be using the same logo, font, photo and colors across all platforms and marketing materials.
If you’re not happy with your visuals, you’re going to have a hard time being consistent.
Don’t skimp on this step. Don’t rely on freebies or clip art. Hire professionals.
Remember that your visuals are what most people will remember when they think of your brand. You want your image to be professional, modern and appealing to your audience.
5. Leverage Social Media.
Social media should play an integral role in your marketing strategy. Social networks have millions of users, they’re free to use, and they offer a unique way to stay connected to your audience. Use them to your advantage.
Travel agents can benefit from using virtually every social network, but Instagram and Snapchat may be your biggest draws. Both are visual platforms that are popular with younger travelers.
Do your research to figure out which social platforms are most popular with your audience.
