Comedian Kumail Nanjiani Reveals Muscular Transformation After Being Cast in Marvel's 'The Eternals'

Getting cast in the Marvel Cinematic Universe seems to do a body good.

Comedian and actor Kumail Nanjiani has revealed an impressive personal transformation brought on by being cast as Kingo Sunen in "The Eternals." In fact, Nanjiani admits he’s even surprised by his tight, muscular physique, taking to Instagram to admit that he never imagined being in such great physical shape.

"I never thought I’d be one of those people who would post a thirsty shirtless [photo], but I’ve worked way too hard for way too long so here we are," he wrote as part of the caption under two bare-chested photos of himself. "You either die a hero, or you live long enough to see yourself become the villain."

I never thought I’d be one of those people who would post a thirsty shirtless, but I’ve worked way too hard for way too long so here we are. You either die a hero, or you live long enough to see yourself become the villain. I found out a year ago I was going to be in Marvel’s Eternals and decided I wanted to transform how I looked. I would not have been able to do this if I didn’t have a full year with the best trainers and nutritionists paid for by the biggest studio in the world. I’m glad I look like this, but I also understand why I never did before. It would have been impossible without these resources and time. So big thanks to @grantrobertsfit who started working with me at the beginning of the year and made me understand true physical pain for months and months. Then, once we started shooting, a massive thanks to @davidhigginslondon and his team (@ellispartridge, @thebeardypt, @tomcheesemanfitness) for training me almost every day and making me strong, limber and injury free. I can almost touch my toes now. (And thank you for forcing me to do cheat meals David.) Matthews Street Catering for their delicious and healthy meals. And finally, the biggest thanks goes to @emilyvgordon for putting up with me complaining and talking about only working out and dieting for the last year. I promise I’ll be interesting again some day. #thirstyshirtless (Photo by @markupson.)

Nanjiani's evolution from funny guy to Marvel hero is incredibly reminiscent of Chris Pratt's journey from Andy Dwyer in "Parks and Recreation" to Peter Quill in "Guardians of the Galaxy." Pratt, recognized as having a quality dad bod, went from schlub to shredded as part of his preparation for the superpowered role. After being cast in the “The Eternals” earlier this year, Nanjiani says that he, too, decided he wanted to transform the way he looked. However, he went on to admit that it would not have been possible for him to get this buff without an expensive team of pros supporting him along the way.

"I would not have been able to do this if I didn’t have a full year with the best trainers and nutritionists paid for by the biggest studio in the world," he shared. "I’m glad I look like this, but I also understand why I never did before. It would have been impossible without these resources and time."

Pricey personal trainer or not, Nanjiani still did the damn thing.

Nanjiani will star in "The Eternals" alongside a powerhouse cast of Hollywood A-listers including Angelina Jolie, Salma Hayek and Kit Harington. The movie is expected to hit theaters in the fall of 2020.
