First LGBTQ Kiss in 'Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker' Has Left Fans Disappointed
Director J.J. Abrams had previously hinted that "The Rise of Skywalker" might include an LGBTQ moment, but it wasn't truly revealed until the film's world premiere on Monday night. (Minor spoilers ahead for the weary.)

The final film in the latest trilogy of 'Star Wars' trilogies does, in fact, include what's being referred to as an "exuberant" kiss between two female members of the Resistance during a celebratory scene. The characters involved, however, are very minor and do not feature significantly in the film in any other way.
"In the case of the LGBTQ community, it was important to me that people who go to see this movie feel that they’re being represented in the film," Abrams said during press tours to promote this latest "Star Wars" installment.
However, fans are just not buying it, claiming that one simple kiss between minor characters is not enough.

The bare minimum. Not groundbreaking.

Others are in full meltdown mode because they deem it to be too much.
Star Wars is now nothing more than a pandering, LGBTQ, MeToo, Men are bad Woman are great, piece of garbage. This Once great movie franchise had been destroyed by Disney. Such a shame as these movies are some of my fondest memories from my childhood.

Furthermore, some fans had hoped for a romantic connection between Poe Dameron (Oscar Isaac) and Finn (John Boyega), and they were pretty displeased that was not the LGBTQ storyline that was delivered — including Isaac himself.
Oscar Isaac says he wished that Poe and Finn's relationship "would’ve been taken further" and that "if they would’ve been boyfriends, that would have been fun."#StarWars #Stormpilot #LGBTQ https://t.co/eXGyC6wY89 pic.twitter.com/qviTc4Lhed

"That relationship to me is a far deeper one than a romantic one,” Abrams said in response to the Finn/Poe bromance. “It is a deep bond that these two have, not just because of the trial by fire in which they met, but also because of their willingness to be as intimate as they are, as afraid as they, as unsure as they are, and still be bold, and still be daring and brave."
The Marvel Cinematic Universe recently served up a similar cop-out with its first openly gay character in "Avengers: Endgame" — an otherwise forgettable man mentioning his date with another man in a group therapy session. However, the upcoming “The Eternals” is set to feature Marvel's first openly gay superhero, played by Brian Tyree Henry (“Atlanta”).
So is this minor kiss a cowardly move by Disney? Or are they just playing it safe with a storied franchise that has millions of very rabid, very vocal fans? You can be the judge when “Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker” hits theaters on December 20.
