In the latest trailer for the highly anticipated sequel, we discover that Maverick is now an instructor for a new group of U.S. Navy fighter pilots, including the son (Miles Teller) of his late flight partner and friend, Goose. Check it out below.
He may be entering into a teacher's role, but as any "Top Gun" fan might expect, Maverick can't stay confined to the classroom. The trailer reveals the daredevil's return to the cockpit as he shows this new generation of fighter pilots exactly how the job is done. Fulfilling that insatiable need for speed, we see him performing plenty of epic, stomach-flipping in-flight action alongside impressive aerial shots that will make this a must-see in theaters.
The film's official synopsis reveals the turmoil that Maverick will encounter as he navigates his new role — and continues to dodge any rank advancement that will keep him grounded.
"Facing an uncertain future and confronting the ghosts of his past, Maverick is drawn into a confrontation with his own deepest fears, culminating in a mission that demands the ultimate sacrifice from those who will be chosen to fly it."
The film also stars Jennifer Connelly in the role of Maverick's new love interest, along with Jon Hamm, Ed Harris and the return of Val Kilmer as Iceman, Maverick's rival.
Watch Maverick and friends hit the skies when "Top Gun: Maverick" releases in theaters in June 2020.
