Prague-based Daytrip raises €1 million to connect tourists with local drivers in 65 countries #StartUps

Czech travel tech startup Daytrip has announced raising approximately €1 million to expand its platform which offers “experience transfers” from local drivers to tourists, making transport more fun and engaging. We included Daytrip in our list of 10 Czech startups to watch in 2018, as well as 10 travel tech startups to help you plan your holidays.

Daytrip, founded in 2015, aims to turn inter-city transfers into memorable travel experiences. Its platform connects travellers with +2000 local drivers who will take them from one city to the next. With options in +60 countries, Daytrip has upped its client numbers to 160,000, achieving +2000 5 star reviews on TripAdvisor for the way it blends convenience with authentic travel.

A benefit of the service is its flexibility, which you cannot get with public transport. Furthermore, it is significantly cheaper than renting a car, which you would have to return to the same city after use in any case.

“With Daytrip you have a personal driver who will pick you up where you want and drive you to a hotel in another city. If you stop by somewhere in the castle, lunch or in a small town, it is up to you,” says Thomas Turek, Daytrip founder, adding that passengers do not have to deal with searching for connections and carrying luggage, with a door-to-door service.

Funding from this round comes from the startups existing investors, Nation 1 and J&T Ventures. Daytrip intends to use the funds for an aggressive worldwide expansion, as well as further sales growth and product development. The traveltech also aims to close its Series A funding this year, which this investment is part of, hoping to hit €5 million raised in total.
