New 'Halo 5' concept artwork revealed by 343 Industries artist

These concept pieces are incredible...and they might even hint at some of the things we may see in Halo Infinite.

What you need to know

  • 343 Industries artist Gabo Garza has revealed never-before seen Halo 5 concept art.
  • The pieces can be viewed freely on Garza's ArtStation page.
  • The artworks contain some fascinating concepts that could potentially end up being an official part of Halo someday.

Recently, 343 Industries artist Gabriel Garza (more commonly known as "Gabo Garza") released a large collection of brand new, never-before seen pieces of conceptual artwork for Halo 5: Guardians on his ArtStation portfolio. They can be viewed freely by anyone, and a ton of them are quite interesting. Here's a number of my personal favorite pieces:

I think it's pretty significant that 343 Industries was possibly considering bringing back the Didact from Halo 4 in a Grim Reaper-like fashion, and I'm also a huge fan of the idea of Covenant species being morphed with mechanical Promethean limbs in some way. Some of the pieces also show that 343 was toying around with the idea of Forerunner ground vehicles as well, which is something many Halo fans have been hoping to see ever since Halo 5 introduced the Prometheans' aerial craft, the Phaeton.

It's fully possible that none of these ideas will ever make it into Halo officially (after all, they must have been cut for some reason), but I also think there's a good chance that we'll see at least some stuff like this in Halo Infinite. For example, I would be shocked if the game didn't introduce a Forerunner ground vehicle of some kind, given how much fans want one. Also, considering that Cortana invited various species to join her as she took over the galaxy at the end of Halo 5, I think giving them Promethean limbs would be a striking way to show how they're welcoming their new overlord with open arms. Ultimately, only time will tell, but I hope 343 Industries doesn't leave these fascinating ideas to fade away.

Also, after seeing this art, I'm convinced Arbiter needs a cape. Make it happen, 343.

Halo 5: Guardians is available now on Xbox One for $20. If you're interested in some of the older releases, Halo: The Master Chief Collection is available for $30 on Xbox One and $40 on PC. Not all of the games are out on PC yet, though, but Halo: Reach is, and Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary is beginning testing soon. Halo Infinite is slated to release during Holiday 2020 on Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and PC.
