Today Polish startup Infermedica, a leading medical AI health company specialized in early diagnosis and triage, has announced a partnership with Microsoft. Infermedica will specifically be working with the Microsoft Healthcare Service Bot, which empowers healthcare organizations to build and deploy AI-powered virtual healthcare assistants at scale. Thanks to the partnership, the system will improve diagnostic efficiency, deliver more meaningful data and bring savings to payers. The partnership follows the COVID-19 outbreak which has pushed healthcare providers to streamline medical triage.
Infermedica was founded in 2012 by a team of engineers, data scientists, and physicians. The team has developed three main products, Call Center Triage, Symptom Checker and Medical API, which help both patients (intake, check symptoms, and guide to the right care), and insurance, healthcare and pharmaceutical companies (increasing efficiency, improving patient flow, and reducing costs). The technology can also detect emergencies and support healthcare professionals by giving them early access to health information and recommendations. The startups’s products have already been used by over 3.5 million users worldwide, for 5 million health checks, and its technology is offered as a white-label solution to health insurance companies, health systems, and hospitals.
Their new partner, Microsoft Healthcare Bot, is used by leading health organizations, including Aurora Health Care, Premera Blue Cross and Quest Diagnostics. By conducting automated triage powered by Infermedica’s technology, the tool helps to reduce the stress in both public and private health systems, currently overloaded by COVID-19 cases.
“Infermedica is revolutionizing the triage space, with a solution that breaks the mold. We were impressed with the sophisticated probabilistic modeling used to achieve a level of accuracy that isn’t possible with the simplistic decision tree models that we saw in the rest of the market. We chose to work with Infermedica because they bring a truly intelligent layer of clinically validated health technology to the Microsoft Healthcare Bot Service, empowering our customers to build smarter virtual assistants that drive better outcomes for patients”, says Adam Walker, Programme Manager at Microsoft Healthcare.
Infermedica’s AI-driven toolkit has helped healthcare providers to reduce emergency room visits by half and increased teleconsultations fivefold. Over 30,000 hours were spent by physicians to verify the data and build a database of over a million patient cases. The company names Allianz, Dovera and Medis among its many clients.
“We’re delighted to partner with Microsoft on its Microsoft Healthcare Bot. We both share our commitment to build more accessible healthcare for everyone, and deliver benefits of digitization to health systems and healthcare providers globally,” says Piotr Orzechowski, CEO and founder of Infermedica.
