Callaly, the first British period product B-Corp, has landed around €1.9 million via a Crowdcube campaign, as it announces its expansion into Europe with its innovation, the ‘tampliner’.

Delivering organic cotton period products via subscription, Callaly invented and patented the tampliner – the first significant tampon innovation in over 80 years. The British made product will be launching in Sweden, the Netherlands and Ireland this month, and has been trialled with positive results in China.

The company, which has previously raised around €8.8 million through private investment and government funding, has seen positive growth during the global pandemic, with new UK subscriber growth of over 160% between March – May.

Thang Vo-Ta, co-founder and CEO of Callaly said: “We have always put our customer and community at the heart of our business and there is no more powerful way to do that than by giving them the chance to be part of our journey.

“We know people are looking for meaningful products and sustainable impact from the brands they purchase from. This marks an opportunity for us as a company built on innovation and purpose. The crowdfund comes as we take our groundbreaking innovation, the tampliner, to Europe. This is just the first step in a global ambition and paves the way for further product innovations to radically improve the lives of people with periods.”

The initial target of around 1.1 million was met quickly on Crowdcube, showing overwhelming support. The funds will support the startup as it continues in its mission to offer better solutions for women’s health at much higher standards.

Luke Lang, co-founder of Crowdcube commented: “In the era of conscious consumerism, people want to work for, buy from, and invest in businesses they believe in, which is why purpose-led B-Corp businesses like Callaly are so well suited to raising investment with Crowdcube.”

Callaly is the first period product B-Corp and is committed to being a force for good. In 2018/19 the company gave over 5% of its sales to non-profits that improve the lives of people with periods and is committed to an annual minimum of 1% and everyone who works at Callaly spends 3% of their time working for charities.

All Callaly’s packaging is recyclable or biodegradable, its products use only 100% organic quality cotton, and it is committed to putting its customers’ health before the bottom line.
