Berlin-based Climatiq raises €1.7 million to grow its carbon footprint intelligence platform #StartUps

Climatiq, a tech startup helping businesses reduce carbon emissions to zero, has raised around 1.7 million in pre-seed financing. The oversubscribed round was led by Cherry Ventures alongside renowned business angels including the family office of Paul Forster (co-founder of job search engine Indeed), and Jens Lapinski of Angel Invest who previously headed Techstars in Berlin.

Founded in 2021, Climatiq provides data infrastructure which enables organisations and developers to build novel climate-positive applications serving a wide range of use cases. It is building a global, open climate impact dataset, activated through APIs that integrate with existing software for automatic, real-time emissions calculation, monitoring, and reporting.

Climatiq’s open database currently holds several thousand verified emission factors that cover numerous carbon-emitting activities. This includes energy data for 150 countries and granular data for transportation, logistics, travel, cloud computing, and more.

Open access to the data not only increases transparency and accuracy, but also enables researchers, organisations and NGOs to collaborate and publish new data that significantly increases its scope.

“We’re thrilled to work with investors who share our vision of empowering everyone to combat the climate crisis. We have less than 10 years to alter course on this global challenge, so there is no time to lose. Global heating knows no borders so battling the climate crisis requires everyone to unite and collaborate”, said Hessam Lavi, co-founder and CEO.

“As organisations worldwide rush to find ways to mitigate the impact of climate change, Climatiq presents a truly unique solution with its API-first and open-source focus,” said Matteo Vallone, Principal at Cherry Ventures, a European early-stage fund noted for its previous impact and API-first investments such as Infarm, Carbo Culture, and Saleor. “Equipped with extensive experience in global technology, Hessam, Philipp, and Isis truly stand out as the first founding team to approach climate change head-on with a tech-focused, community-driven solution that teams can continue to build upon.”
