Ferragamo names Maximilian Davis creative director

#SmallBusiness

Salvatore Ferragamo is ready to enter a new era of design.

The Italian fashion house on Monday said Maximilian Davis would become its new creative director, effective Wednesday, according to a company announcement.

Davis graduated from London College of Fashion and launched his own brand in 2020. The new position also explains why, in early March, Davis dropped out of the LVMH Prize for Young Designers, after being listed as one of 20 semi-finalists.

"The clarity of his vision together with the level of execution and his powerful aesthetic make him one of the most brilliant talents of his generation," Ferragamo CEO Marco Gobbetti said in a statement regarding Davis. "His work is defined by elegance, refined sensuality, and constant commitment to quality. Through his lens of contemporary sensibility, he will write a new, exciting chapter for this house built on a heritage of creativity, craftsmanship, sophistication, and outstanding human values."

Ferragamo has been through a number of rapid leadership changes, another major one being Gobbetti's taking on the CEO role in January. Gobbetti came to the fashion house from Burberry, and is the fourth CEO of the fashion house in five years.

Ferragamo has been without a creative director since Paul Andrews stepped down from the role nearly a year ago. Design tasks have been handled in the meantime by the company's in-house creative team.

"Ferragamo represents a dedication to timeless elegance and sophistication that I find incredibly inspiring," Davis said in a statement. "I'm looking forward to articulating my vision, elevated by the codes of Italian craftsmanship, quality and innovation".

Ferragamo's sales were hit particularly hard during the early part of the pandemic, but in its latest earnings regarding 2021, said that revenue was up 29.5% year over year.
