Picking up with the Marvel hero following the events of Avengers: Endgame, Thor: Love and Thunder finds Thor on a journey unlike anything he’s ever faced – a quest for inner peace. But his retirement is interrupted by a galactic killer known as Gorr the God Butcher, who seeks the extinction of the gods. To combat the threat, Thor enlists the help of King Valkyrie, Korg, and ex-girlfriend Jane Foster, who – to Thor’s surprise – inexplicably wields his magical hammer, Mjolnir, as the Mighty Thor. Together, they embark upon a harrowing cosmic adventure to uncover the mystery of the God Butcher’s vengeance and stop him before it’s too late.
The problem with 3D is that it has had more comings than Jesus caught in a time loop. There was the original 1950s phase, then that brief period in the 1980s when Jaws 3-D landed at cinemas, and finally around 2009 when James Cameron seemed to think stereoscopic film-making was about to become more popular than the Beatles. In between now and then we’ve also had 3D TVs, which ran out of steam around 2017 amid a chorus of unbothered shrugs. As for higher frame rates, Peter Jackson was forced to dull down his Hobbit trilogy after viewers complained they didn’t really need to see Bombur’s blackheads in such excruciating detail when viewing An Unexpected Journey at 48-frames per second.
Not only will Thor: Love and Thunder find the titular MCU character heading off on a journey of self-discovery, the movie will also introduce a brand-new villain, one which could be the greatest threat Thor has ever faced, and bring back a face from Thor’s past. Academy Award winner and The Dark Knight star Christian Bale will make his MCU debut as bad guy Gorr the God Butcher, an all-powerful extra-terrestrial on a vendetta of vengeance against gods. Additionally, many fans are again calling for Emilia Clarke to get the role of Mera if Heard ends up getting fired. This fan casting is nothing new, as in years past, there have been similar calls for this to happen along with fan art drawn up depicting Clarke in the role. Many fans want to see this happen as Clarke and Jason Momoa previously co-starred in Game of Thrones where they had great chemistry. That’s worth noting as there have been rumors that Heard was almost recast in that role anyway because of a perceived lack of chemistry with Momoa
