Only 19% of You Would Have Raised Even More Venture Capital

#SmallBusiness

Most startups aren’t able to raise venture capital, they just aren’t in the sweet spot.  Growth isn’t on point, generally.   Bootstrapping is more often not a choice — but the only option.  If not forever, at least in the early stages.

Ben Chestnut CEO of Mailchimp had a great story here — they were flooded with VC offers only once they were large enough and profitable enough not to need it 😉

But across the board, would folks raise more if they could?  To invest more in growth, go harder, etc?

Or would they try to do less, stay more disciplined, and burn less?

The answer to our survey of 1,000+ wasn’t dispositive, but still, only 19% said they should have raised more.

That’s my general experience.  Too much capital often leads to a loss of discipline.
