Dive Brief:

  • Perfect Corp.’s AI Skin Analysis tech is now available at all Face Haus facial bar locations, according to a press release sent to Retail Dive.
  • Perfect Corp’s proprietary Skin IQ analysis helps Face Haus estheticians determine the most effective facial for a customer’s skin type with a comprehensive assessment and product recommendations.
  • Face Haus sells its own line of body and skin care products on its website,Target.com and Amazon, the company said. The spa has locations in Los Angeles, California and Dallas, Texas.

Dive Insight:

Perfect Corp’s technology generates a comprehensive skin assessment in seconds that identifies redness, oiliness, pores, moisture, wrinkles, acne, texture and dark spots in a user. The company said the analysis can provide results, “on par with medical professionals, 20x faster than traditional hardware devices commonly used in medical spas.”

Face Haus estheticians operate all the technology and take the customer photos for the analysis. The skin analysis by Perfect Corp. is a staple from the beauty tech company, offering a 180-degree full face mapping. Using AR and AI, the program displays 14 different types of skin concerns, skin type and skin aging on a face. This can be done with a photo or in real-time with a live camera, per the company’s site.

With the inclusion of Perfect Corp’s skin analysis, “high tech meets high touch with Haus facials now powered by skin smart technology,” per the company. Additionally, its tech allows for skin scan reports shoppers can download. Per the company, a research study comparing the AI Skin Assessment to a physician assessment and imaging devices showed an over 80% correlation for certain concerns.

In 2021, Perfect Corp, first raised $50 million in a Series C funding round. The company has gone on to help retailers like Walmart bring virtual makeup try-on to stores, virtual jewelry try-on, an AI hair-identifying tool and more across fashion and beauty. Perfect Corp. also has worked with brands like Mineral Fusion to implement its tech at Whole Foods locations and with travel retailer Dufry to land its tech at airports.

When it comes to incorporating AI, many beauty companies have taken advantage of the technology like Makeup by Mario’s lifesize virtual makeup try-on mirror at Times Square, the Spoiled Child brand by Oddity and Living Proof’s AI personalized hair care quiz

In 2021, skincare company HeyDay raised funding for hundreds more franchised stores, having only 10 of them at the time. The personalized skin care company and service-based startup also puts estheticians at the center of its business to boast product recommendations.

Drybar, another service-based retailer, offers its line of professional hair care products alongside its salon chain. In 2023, Helen of Troy, who owns Drybar, announced in an earnings call that the company would cut 10% of its global workforce as part of a restructuring plan.
