Salesforce is making most folks outside of engineering come to office 4-5 days a week starting October 1
I think this is what most CEOs want. Sales in the office 4-5 days a week. Marketing, finance and legal at least 3-4.
And engineering? Whatever it takes to get the best.…

According to The Standard, Salesforce in many departments will now need to go back to the office 4-5 days a week. Not flex time, not 2 days a week. But basically, close to full-time, including many in sales:
According to an internal memo reviewed by The Standard, San Francisco’s largest private employer has made the call to bring the majority of its employees back into the office, reversing a broad shift to remote work during the pandemic.
Select employees in sales, workplace services, data center engineering and onsite support technicians under the chief information officer will be required to come to the office four to five days a week, effective Oct. 1.
Other departments will have to come in 3 days a week:
All other departments – including marketing, legal and product teams – will be designated “office-flex” — meaning they must come in at least three days a week. The company’s other engineering roles are also in this bucket, although they will be required to come in only at least 10 days each quarter.
Wisely (IMHO) non-tech ops engineering only has to come in 10 days a week. Forcing your top engineers to drive in 5 days a week will only work for a small subset of start-ups. But sales? I mean … almost every CRO I know says sales folks in the office perform better and work harder. More on that here:
Badge scans will be checked in the U.S.
Salesforce is under pressure, and is projecting less than 10% growth next year, for the first time ever. Whether or not RTO “works”, many will debate. But many CROs and founders are tired of folks that phone it in from home. They think getting people in the office will at least push them to work more hours, and ideally, a bit harder.
They may be right. You’ll just also lose some folks.
But tougher times … lead to tougher measures.
